King and Duke, my two roan custom model horses! Schleich custom model horses
June 21, 2025
If you know me, you probably know that I LOVE roans. It's one of my very favorite horse coat colors! (very favorite because all the colors are my favorites). Roans come in a lot of variations, blue, red, strawberry, bay, etc. They are also some of the most difficult horses to recreate because their coat is so intricate. To symbolize my love for roans, I decided to create my first ever red roan model with a starting base of the Schleich Noriker stallion. This is how Duke came to be.
Duke looks very kind and he was a joy to work on.
Once Duke reached the sealant phase, I started thinking of a second roan... A package came in with the Schleich Andalusian stallion and I had a vision...
This is where King was born.
Apart from changing his coat color to a blue roan, I also felt like I had a better breed to define him as. And the breed I chose is the Canadian Horse! Let me know if you want to see an article about the Canadian Horse or if you have any questions, you can always email me: contact@naturefoxes.com
The breed really describes the model in my opinion and it suits him so well! I also chose markings that resemble the pinto (a type of horse markings) to overlay the blue roan coat.
The making of King and Duke was a real journey. As with every custom, you learn something new, but with this pair I discovered a wide variety of new techniques and things I can do differently for my next customs. I'm honestly thrilled with how they turned out considering they are my very first attempts at this lovely coat.
I hope you enjoyed seeing my new customs and their photoshoot!
