3 Model Horse Photography Tips!

What are three quick and easy thing you can implement today to improve your model horse photography? Let’s find out!

  1. Avoid side elements that interfere or look like they stick out of the model. This especially happens with blades of grass or twigs that poke out behind the subject. Either hold them down with your free hand, or position your model differently. This specifically refers to thing sticking “out of the model” around the head and stuff that are too in focus, creating a distraction from the subject.

  2. Don’t force an awkward angle if you feel like it does not suit the model. You might take a wonderful side profile shot of your Friesian model horse, but the same angle on your Hanoverian may look very off. Each model has an angle they fit best. There’s nothing wrong with being “plane” sometimes and going for the easy win.

  3. Consider sources of lighting and use them to your advantage to create a story in your photography. If the light is falling especially nicely in a certain location, place your model in the spotlight or use it as an intriguing backdrop to draw attention to that area. Sources of light are a truly fascinating aspect of photography, which in itself is a form of “painting with light”, because there are endless ways in which it can change your photos. It really is those who know how to play with it that get better results.
