Sets of Pictures - Why it helps

Grouping your model horse photography and artistic photography into sets is a great way to express emotion and story line more easily. Groupings of pictures can range from sets of three, two, five, or more shots. So here are a few reasons why this technique has become so popular.

Sets of pictures allow photographers to set a mood throughout the whole viewing experience. This is an amazing attention grabbing tool for your audience and is the base to creating storylines. When you create a sequence, the viewer becomes invested in the setting and mood of your photography. They are more inclined to stay and gaze a little longer, trying to find a link, connection, or way to process the information in front of them.

In the example above, each of these photographs is nothing special when it stands alone. However, there are a few key elements that repeat in all the pictures. My model horse Midnight is photographed in a shoulder cut, portrait picture. The silhouette of his face is very clear. All backgrounds are country/garden elements that are very prominent, very close up and large compared to his scale and size. Having these pictures in a sequence is exactly what makes them stand out and be interesting.

Sorting images and arranging them in the right setting gives them more meaning and power. This exercise can be done during photoshoots, in editing, or even weeks later using different pictures from separated photo shoots. Photographing things with the goal of sequencing in mind gives a completely different shoot perspective, and it is something I would recommend to anyone looking to better display their images in a story filled way!
